Seattle-Based & Family-Owned
We are a Seattle-based, family-owned business that started in 1932 by an innovative woman named Rose Charters who had a clever idea for a just-add-water Pie Crust mix. Rose and her husband, James Charters, started selling the mix to friends, neighbors and local cafés. They quickly outgrew their home kitchen and soon opened the first manufacturing plant in Seattle. This led to our first brand, Krusteaz (easy- crust).
Later, the Heily family grew the company through new product platforms like pancakes and buttermilk biscuits. Over time we’ve added a full line of cakes, muffins, breads, beverages, breaders, dessert mixes and most recently, ready to bake batter.
It can’t go unnoticed that the company has maintained its high standards and baking expertise all these years; currently, 3rd generation family run.
We continue to innovate, making products as close to scratch as you can get. With customer-centric, state of the art insights and industry leading R&D, our goal is to create culinary inspiration in every single bite.

Shepherd’s Grain Baking Mixes are made with flour that has been farmed using sustainable methods. This means that our farmers do less to the soil so that nature can do more. Nutrient-rich, just-add-water mixes add fresh-baked appeal to any menu.
